What is a neuro-adaptive approach to learning to drive?

Neuroshift combines principles of psychology, coaching and effective driver training strategies with patience, kindness, empathy and understanding to develop a plan entirely made to meet you where you're at. Whether you face specific challenges or just want an instructor who will ease your nerves and make you feel safe, comfortable and cared for, Neuroshift makes the learning experience not just effective but also supportive and encouraging.

At the heart of Neuroshift is a counseling-based approach that focuses not just on driving skills to pass your test, but also on your overall mental and emotional well-being.

This is perfect for learners who prefer a gentler approach, are neurodiverse, autistic, have ADHD, or face other challenges to driving independance like anxiety, fear or recovery from road trauma. Neuroshift provides that extra care to help you succeed and gain confidence and independence on the road. Many of my students are fully-licensed drivers who have suffered trauma preventing them from getting back behind the wheel. Neuroshift recognises and embraces the unique circumstances of each individual.

What set us apart for neurodiverse learners?

Learning to drive can feel overwhelming. It's a big step, exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. On top of the normal nerves we all experience, neurodiverse learners can face challenges like sensory overload, difficulty processing complex information, dyspraxia, increased anxiety or difficulties with spatial reasoning. These factors, for some learners, can lead to the decision to avoid driving or stop altogether if the stress gets too much.

Neuroshift is here to work with you through these challenges with patience, personalised guidance, and specialised training to ensure you have the opportunity you deserve to overcome whatever is holding you back.

You will be encouraged to choose the direction of each lesson, work on what you feel ready for, and go at the speed and pace you feel comfortable with.

Your student car - Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has a 5-Star ANCAP rating. The 5-star rating indicates that the Sportage performs well
in various safety tests, including those related to frontal offset, side impact, and whiplash protection. The
Sportage also features a range of active safety technologies, such as autonomous emergency braking
(AEB) and lane-keeping assist, which contribute to its high safety score.

Is it too big for a learner vehicle?

Not at all! Learning to drive in a small car might seem like a logical choice due to its compact size and ease of handling. Smaller cars simplify tasks such as tight turns and parking, making them appealing to new drivers. However, this simplicity can present challenges when transitioning to larger vehicles, which often feature a wider turning radius and a higher driving position. For those accustomed only to small cars, these adjustments can feel daunting.

Choosing to start driving lessons in a slightly larger vehicle, such as a small SUV, provides an excellent middle ground, bridging the gap between the compact size of smaller cars and the imposing presence of full-sized vehicles. It allows learners to experience a higher seating position, increased visibility, and a wider vehicle body without the overwhelming size of larger models. This approach not only makes the eventual transition to bigger vehicles smoother and less intimidating but also enhances a driver’s overall adaptability and confidence. At the same time, drivers who learn in a small SUV find operating compact cars more manageable, creating a versatile skill set that prepares them for various vehicle types and driving conditions.

I invite you to be an active participant in this exciting chapter of their life.

How We Support You

As a mum, counselor and educator, I believe in working hand-in-hand with parents and carers to create a positive learning experience. Here’s how we can collaborate:

  • Regular Updates: We’ll keep you informed about your young person's progress, including the skills they’ve mastered and areas where they may need extra practice.

  • Driving Practice Tips: I will provide guidance for practicing with your child outside of lessons, including safety tips and exercises to reinforce what they’re learning.

  • Open Communication: Have questions or concerns? I'm here to provide answers, listen to your input, and ensure you feel confident about their progress.
